Hematology

The Division of Hematology works in the following areas.

(1) Clinical research group (Associate Prof. Ono and Assistant Prof. Nagata)

We participate multi-center clinical trials conducted by Japan Adult Leukemia Study Group (JALSG), the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) and the Nagoya Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group (NBMTG) to develop new treatment strategy for hematological disease including leukemia, malignant lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Associate Prof. Ono is a key member in clinical trials for chronic myeloid leukemia in JALSG.

(2) Analyzing molecular mechanism of vascular adverse event (VAE) caused by BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) (Associate Prof. Ono and Department of Pharmacology: Associate prof. Iwaki)

VAE are an emerging problem in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) receiving second-generation BCR-ABL1 TKI. However, this molecular mechanism is unknown. We investigate molecular mechanism in original murine models through comprehensive gene analyses by next generation sequencer.

Rheumatology

Several research activities are on-going, including study for pathogenesis of Sjogren's syndrome, development of optimal therapeutic strategy for elderly patients of rheumatoid arthritis, and analysis of the mechanism of methotrexate-related lymphoproliferative disorders in rheumatoid arthritis etc.

Multicenter clinical study can be performed using the Shizuoka Rheumatism Network, for example, "Multicenter, Observational Clinical Study of Abatacept in Japanese Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis" is published in Immunological Medicine 2019, 42;29-38.
