Medical School

The Poliklinik in the 5th grade consists of a study session (Kursus), slit-lamp examination, funduscopic examination, surgery, and the outpatient clinic. The ophthalmologic knowledge essential for a general practitioner can be acquired. In additional (optional) hospital training (Sentaku-Poliklinik) spanning 2 weeks in the 6th grade, they can learn more advanced clinical ophthalmology than in the 5th grade by rotating with 2 groups every other week. A training on surgery under a microscope using porcine eyes, the so-called wet lab, is also provided.

Resident

Residents can receive training on a wide range of eye diseases. The trainings are scheduled thoughtfully so that residents can experience a wide range of medical care practices. Moreover, our department, including the affiliated hospitals, conducts approximately 5,000 cataract surgeries and approximately 1,000 surgeries for vitreoretinal disease per year; therefore, the residents will have sufficient experience before taking the Board Examinations of ophthalmology.

Fellowship

After taking the Board Examinations of ophthalmology, they can choose their career from several courses, for example, to be a specialist strabismus/pediatric ophthalmology diseases, vitreoretinal disease, or glaucoma, to be a research staff after studying abroad, and to be a head physician at an affiliated hospital treating patients with cataract and vitreoretinal disease. A course can be created if the fellow is interested in pursuing it, thus, we can create a course according to their plan.
