Microbiology and Immunology

Professor NAGATA Toshi

We are working on cellular immune responses against infectious diseases, mainly diseases caused by intracellular bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the aetiological agent of tuberculosis (TB). The protective immunity against these pathogens depends on cellular immunity, the main effectors of which are T cells.
We are analyzing major protective antigens in these pathogens, T-cell epitopes in the antigens, T-cell epitope hierarchy, etc. In addition, we are trying various vaccination strategies for inducing effective immunity against these pathogens.
