May 15, 2026: Our paper on the discovery of diagnostic markers for distinguishing pulmonary metastases of oral squamous cell carcinoma from primary lung squamous cell carcinoma, for which Dr. Shinmura served as corresponding author, was accepted by Scientific Reports and published online on the journal website today. The article has also been indexed in PubMed.
April 20, 2026: The Department of Tumor Pathology has begun teaching its portion of the pathology course for third-year medical students. The course will continue until June 23, and the examination for the section taught by the department will be held on July 13.
April 13, 2026: Dr. Katsuhiro Yoshimura, Dr. Shinya Katsuragi, Dr. Rei Ishikawa, and Dr. Ryosuke Miyazaki will give oral presentations at the 115th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology, to be held in Sapporo from April 16 to 18. Dr. Katsuhiro Yoshimura gave a general oral presentation on lung cancer research; Dr. Rei Ishikawa gave a general oral presentation on small intestinal cancer research; Dr. Ryosuke Miyazaki gave a general oral presentation on lung cancer research; and Dr. Shinmura chaired a general oral session on the upper gastrointestinal tract. January 4, 2024: The following are the accepted abstracts from the Department of Tumor Pathology submitted to the 113th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology: Assistant Teacher Hidetaka YAMADA's research on lung cancer (general poster), graduate student NZITAKERA Augustin's research on gastric cancer (general oral presentation) Overseas session), graduate student Shinya KATSURAGI's research on gastric cancer (general poster), and Kazuki KURIHARA, a fifth-year medical student studying in the Department of Oncologic Pathology (undergraduate poster session). In addition, Prof. SHINMURA will chair the poster session (respiratory organs).

December 18, 2023: Dr. Katsuhiro YOSHIMURA, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, has joined as an Assistant Teacher in the Department of Tumor Pathology.

December 9, 2023: Dr. Shinya KATSURAGI, a graduate student in the Department of Tumor Pathology, presented a case of a rare case (joint presentation with the Department of Pathology, Seirei Hamamatsu Hospital) at the Chubu-Kokenkai.
November 27, 2023: A research paper entitled " High Expression of Fas-Associated Factor 1 Indicates a Poor Prognosis in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer " has been published in Curr Oncol. The article is now available on PubMed. The first author of this paper is Dr.HU De, a graduate student in the Department of Tumor Pathology.
November 14, 2023: We administered the Pathology Practice (Exercise) examination to second-year medical students. The results were reported on the 20th.
October 30-November 2, 2023: We completed the "Oncology" training component of the graduate doctoral program in medicine.
September 30, 2023: Dr. MANIRAKIZA Felix, a recent graduate of the Department of Tumor Pathology, has returned to Rwanda after completing his studies. He now serves as a Senior Lecturer at University of Rwanda, School of Medicine and Pharmacy and as a Pathologist at University Teaching Hospital Of Kigali.

September 21, 2023: Dr. NZITAKERA Augustin, a graduate student in the Department of Tumor Pathology, presented his research on gastric cancer in Rwanda at the English Oral Session during the 82nd Annual Meeting of The Japanese Cancer Association.
September 14, 2023: Dr. Shinya Katsuragi, a graduate student in the Department of Tumor Pathology, has successfully passed the 2023 Pathologist Examination.
September 11, 2023: The Department of Tumor Pathology began teaching pathology to second-year medical students.
June 6, 2023: Dr. Ryosuke Miyazaki of the Department of Tumor Pathology presented his research and pathology methods at a technical presentation organized by the Technology Department of Hamamatsu University School of Medicine.
August 31, 2023: Assistant Professor Yuji Iwashita of the Department of Tumor Pathology completed his tenure at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. He has since joined the Cancer Prevention Research Department at the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute.
August 24, 2023: A farewell gathering was organized for Dr. Yuji Iwashita, who served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Tumor Pathology, and Dr. MANIRAKIZA Felix, a graduate student of the said department.
August 10, 2023: We have started recording videos of supplementary lectures before the graduation examination of the 6th year medical students (Pathological Diagnosis scheduled for October 2). Seven supplementary lectures are planned for the Department of Tumor Pathology. They will be uploaded sequentially to the educational support system of Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. All seven lectures are expected to be completed by the end of August.

May 22 and 24, 2023: We conducted a tutorial on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for third-year medical students who were under the responsibility of the Department of Tumor Pathology.

The article is now available on PubMed. The first author of this paper is Dr. Shinya Katsuragi (Pathologist) a graduate student in the Department of Tumor Pathology.
April 4, 2023: Prof. Shinmura participated in the lecture and ceremony for the inauguration of Dr. Yoshiro Matsumoto as Chairman of the Japan Medical Association.
April 17, 2023: The department of Tumor Pathology began teaching pathology to third-year medical students.
April 3, 2023: The Department of Tumor Pathology began accepting 6th-year medical students for elective hospital training. (This year, the acceptance period lasted until June 16).
April 13, 2023: Prof. Shinmura gave an oral presentation at the 112th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology (title: Examination of primary cilia in lung tumors: High-frequency identification of primary cilia in small cell lung cancer and its function).
April 12, 2023: "Primary cilia are frequently present in small cell lung carcinomas but not in non-small cell lung carcinomas or lung carcinoids", a research paper by Shinmura et al. has been published in the journal Laboratory Investigations and the article is now available on PubMed.
April 1, 2023: Dr. Shinmura was appointed Professor.
