Memorandum of Understanding was concluded with the University of Rochester

Oct 22, 2026

Hamamatsu University School of Medicine (HUSM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Rochester in New York, U.S., to promote educational and research exchanges between the two institutions.
The MOU establishes a framework for further developing educational and research exchanges between the two universities, marking the 20th anniversary in 2026 of the sister-city relationship between Hamamatsu and Rochester. The two universities have already developed their relationship through activities such as faculty development (FD) lectures and academic discussions.
In conjunction with the Hamamatsu Mayor's visit to Rochester as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the sister-city relationship, Miho Yamashita, Associate Professor and Deputy Director at the International Center, visited the University of Rochester on behalf of HUSM President Hiroshi Watanabe and presented the signed MOU.
Going forward, the two universities are expected to further develop exchanges and collaboration through faculty and student exchanges, joint research, academic seminars, and other activities, particularly in areas such as emergency medicine, family and community medicine, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), bioethics, and hospice and palliative care.
Building on this agreement, HUSM will continue to promote international collaborative research and expand opportunities for students to engage in international exchange, further advancing the university's internationalization efforts.
