On Monday, September 22, we welcomed Dr. Jefferson Svengsouk from the University of Rochester, USA, as a guest lecturer for an FD lecture titled "Music in Medicine: Improving the Healthcare Experience of Patients and Caregivers." A total of 16 faculty, staff, and students participated.
Dr. Svengsouk is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at UR Medicine (University of Rochester Medical Center), where he leads pioneering initiatives in emergency ultrasound education. In addition, he serves as a palliative care consultant in the hospice and palliative care department, incorporating Native American flute music into patient care. He is also the chair of the Hamamatsu-Rochester Sister City Committee.
In his lecture, Dr. Svengsouk demonstrated how music can positively impact patients and caregivers in medical settings, including live flute performances. Participants were deeply moved by the soft, soothing sounds, and the session was held in a warm and relaxed atmosphere throughout.
