Visit to Chulabhorn International College of Medicine, Thammasat University

Feb 18, 2025

From February 4 (Tue.) to 5 (Wed.), President Hiroyuki Konno and five others visited Chulabhorn International College of Medicine, Thammasat University ("CICM"), Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand.
The purpose of this visit was to gather information necessary for providing medical education in accordance with global standards and fostering internationally minded medical professionals, as well as to observe leading international medical education, research, and medical facilities in Asia, and to utilize this information for future medical education at our university.
The exchange between CICM and HUSM began with a memorandum of understanding ("MOU") signed in April 2018 to strengthen cooperation in education and research in the field of dermatology. In November 2023, we welcomed the delegation from CICM and signed the new MOU that expanded to the entire Faculty of Medicine. Since then, we have accepted three CICM students for basic research in August 2024, and this spring, we plan to send three students from our university to CICM for clinical training, steadily strengthening our exchange.
At the meeting held on the first day of the visit, Dr. Peerapong Kitipawong, Dean of the International College of Medicine, and Dr. Adis Tasanarong, former Dean of the International College of Medicine, both of whom had previously visited HUSM, were present to exchange views on future exchange between the two universities with young members of the CICM Executive Committee.
The tour of the facilities included a state-of-the-art simulation center and an IT-based educational site with professionals deployed throughout to provide a comfortable learning environment for students and faculty.
It is no exaggeration to say that everything for living is provided within the spacious campus, where students and faculty members are friendly and not divided. It was impressive to see the student participants in PBL, studying in such a blessed environment, clearly expressing opinions in fluent English in response to the questions posed by the visiting delegation from Japan.
CICM is a relatively new college, established in 2012, with English as the primary language of education, and aims to train outstanding professionals in the fields of medicine and research while playing an important role in the artistic and cultural evolution of Thailand. The college operates independently from Thammasat University and is accredited as a university institution. It was granted the name Chulabhorn Medical University (Chulabhorn International College of Medicine) by Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn in May 2013.
The location of CICM is about an hour's drive from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and it is not only a core medical facility in the region that receives many patients from northern and central Thailand, but also a college suitable for leading medical care in Thailand and the rest of Asia at the cutting edge, full of vitality. We look forward to further collaboration in various fields with CICM in the future.
