International students on fieldwork excursion to appreciate Japanese culture
Nov 14, 2022
On November 2nd, an excursion was organized for our international students (26 postgraduate students and researchers) with 6 staff members to learn more about Japan.
The purpose of this excursion was to broaden the international students' understanding of Japanese culture, history, climate, industry, etc., and to deepen mutual understanding and friendship among international students and faculty members. This was the first time in three years that the excursion had been conducted on a reduced day schedule, with travel only within Shizuoka Prefecture, and took precautions against infection.
The excursion started with experiencing the traditional Japanese craft of making powdered shell chopsticks at Sunpu Traditional Hand Craft Arts Center, then a walk around Nihondaira, a scenic spot overlooking Mt. Fuji, and a visit to Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine. Sharing the experience brought international students, researchers, and faculty closer together. Participants commented that they were able to experience the beauty of Japanese culture and build better relationships with their fellow students and faculty members.
