Advanced Medical Science for Regional Collaboration

Professor OSAWA Satoshi

photo_osawa300.jpgThis course, established in April 2025 at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, is an endowed program supported by Omaezaki City in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Shizuoka Prefecture faces a chronic shortage of physicians, with a low doctor-to-population ratio and longstanding disparities in regional healthcare distribution. At the same time, the aging population in the region necessitates enhanced medical services for the elderly.

The aim of this course is to develop and disseminate advanced medical technologies in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, to promote the use of minimally invasive endoscopic treatments, and to conduct clinical research that supports the digital transformation (DX) of medicine. Through these efforts, we strive to establish an efficient, high-quality healthcare system and to improve medical care in underserved areas.

Our primary focus areas include:

  1. Enhancing the quality of regional cancer screening programs.
  2. Advancing cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) support for gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
  3. Promoting minimally invasive endoscopic treatments tailored to elderly patients.
