刘 亮 Liu Liang

My name is Liu Liang. I am from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China. I graduated from Henan University of Chinese Medicine, majoring in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I love Japan since my childhood. Japan is one of the most advanced medical countries in the world, and the study of abdominal diagnosis in Chinese medicine is very distinctive. Therefore, I came up with the idea to study in Japan with my wife Liu Jie. With the help of mentors and friends, we were able to enroll in Hamamatsu University School of Medicine.

In October 2018, I flew to Japan with my wife to start doctoral studies at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, and together we did experimental research in the laboratory of Professor Tetsuro Suzuki. When I first arrived in Japan, the clean urban environment and beautiful natural surroundings made people feel relaxed and happy. People are respectful, cars give way to pedestrians, and the staff is patient and responsible. In November, I participated in a trip to Kyoto organized by the school. The tours of Kinkakuji and Kiyomizu-dera were impressive. What surprised me most was the printmaking experience in Japan. I am very familiar with Japanese mythological animal imagery, for the reason that many Chinese herbal medicine recipes are named after mythical animals. However, few people in China today know about them. I am keenly aware of the importance of cultural exchange and inheritance.

During the research period, I sighed at the rigor of the Japanese people's research attitude, paying attention to every single operation and detail. At the same time, I lamented the diligence of the Japanese people. Sometimes we would do experiments early in the morning, but most of the time, other members of the team were still working. My research on the molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis after HCV infection has now led to some interesting findings, which are being further verified. I hope to have good results.

I am very happy to have a new member of my family during my study period. However, a subsequent outbreak of the new coronavirus has shattered all our plans. Our original plan was for the child's grandparents to take care of the child in China after the child turned one year old. However, the new coronavirus made it difficult for us to return to Japan, so we decided to study and raise our child in Japan. Raising a child is hard work, but watching our child grow up is a blessing. We were lucky enough to be able to place our child in Midori Nursery School very close to the school. We also received a great deal of support from the Japanese government, including subsidies for our child and a special scholarship during the outbreak of the new coronavirus. We would like to thank the Japanese government and all related organizations. Of course, we are also greatly thankful to our scholarship donors. With the support of the scholarship, we international students are able to overcome life's difficulties and focus on our studies and research.

Although I have not yet finished my research, I hope to work in Japan after graduation. Finally, I hope that China and Japan will strengthen cooperation and exchange, make efforts to contribute to medical research, and that the epidemic of the new coronavirus will soon be over.

私の名前は劉亮（リﾕウ・リャン）です。中国河南省鄭州市の出身です。河南中医薬大学で中医学を専攻し、卒業しました。私は子供の頃から日本が大好きで、日本は世界でも有数の医療先進国であり、漢方医学における腹部診断の研究は非常に特徴的です。そこで、妻の劉傑と一緒に日本に留学することを思いつきました。メンターや友人の助けを借りて、浜松医科大学に入学することができました。

2018年10月に妻と一緒に日本に飛び、浜松医科大学で博士号を取得するための勉強を始め、一緒に鈴木哲朗教授の研究室で実験的な研究を行いました。私が初めて日本に来たとき、きれいな都市環境と美しい自然環境は人々をリラックスさせ、幸せな気持ちにさせてくれました。人々は礼儀正しく、車は歩行者に道を譲り、スタッフは忍耐強く責任感があります。11月に学校主催の京都旅行に参加させていただきました。金閣寺と清水寺のツアーは印象的です。最も驚いたのは、日本での版画体験でした。多くの漢方薬のレシピは神話上の動物にちなんで名付けられているため、私は日本の神話上の動物のイメージに非常に精通しています。しかし、今の中国では、そのことを知っている人はほとんどいません。文化交流や継承の大切さを痛感しています。

研究期間中、日本人の研究姿勢の厳しさにため息をつき、一つ一つの操作、細部にまで気を配りました。同時に、日本人の勤勉さを嘆きました。早朝に実験をすることもありますが、ほとんどの場合、他のメンバーはまだ作業中です。私の研究は、HCV感染後の肝線維化の分子メカニズムに関するもので、現在、いくつかの興味深い発見があり、それらはさらに確認されつつあります。良い結果が得られることを願っています。

勉強期間中、家族に新しいメンバーが加わり、とても幸せです。しかし、その後の新型コロナウイルスの発生により、すべての計画が打ち砕かれました。私たちの当初の計画では、子供が1歳になった後、子供の祖父母が中国で子供の世話をすることでした。しかし、新型コロナウイルスの影響で帰国が難しくなったため、日本で勉強しながら子育てをすることにしました。子育ては大変ですが、子供の成長はとても嬉しいものです。学校にとても近いみどり保育園に応募できてラッキーでした。また、日本政府からも多大なご支援をいただき、子供への助成金や新型コロナウイルス流行時の特別奨学金など、大変お世話になりました。日本政府と関係機関に感謝します。もちろん、奨学金の寄付者にも感謝しなければなりません。奨学金の支援のおかげで、私たち留学生は人生の困難を克服し、勉強と研究に集中することができます。

まだ研究は終わっていませんが、卒業後は日本で働きたいと思っています。最後に、中国と日本が協力と交流を強化し、医学研究に貢献できるように努力するとともに、新型コロナウイルスの流行が早く終息することを願っています。
