AFROZ Mst Sayela

I am Mst Sayela Afroz. I am a final-year graduate (PhD) student, faculty of Cooperative Major in Medical Photonics under the supervision of Prof. Mitsutoshi Setou, Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. I have come from the western part of Bangladesh, which is highly famous for sweet mangoes and silk textiles. I have completed my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Rajshahi. After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked at a health university (Bangladesh University of Health Sciences) for four years, and I thought I would be a good researcher. Japan is widely recognised for its research and is considered a favourable environment for women.

I have gained knowledge in lipidomics, proteomics, metabolomics, drugs, and their metabolites imaging by mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Currently, I am working on the development of therapeutic targets for prostate cancer. Additionally, I am involved in drug development for neurodegenerative diseases and omics analysis. I have successfully finished two years and eight months of my PhD course and published one paper as a first author and several (five) papers as a co-author. In the future, I want to contribute my expertise and knowledge to mass spectrometry research.

I have been living in Hamamatsu with my family. Children's facilities (health, daycare, security, and traffic security) are highly regarded in Japan. I visited most of the parts of Hamamatsu City. Especially Lake Hamana, Hamamatsu Flower Park, and Fruits Park for picking. The weather and climate in Hamamatsu are charming. "Parsimon", "Mikkabi Mikan", and "Hamamatsu unagi pai" are very famous in Hamamatsu. There are a lot of naturally beautiful places in Japan. I have also visited several places in Japan, including Mt. Fuji, Izu Islands, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Tsukuba, Saitama, Nagoya, Mie, Toyama, Kanazawa, Shirakawa village in Gifu, Hakuba Valley, Kamikochi in Nagano, Matsuyama, and Imabari in Ehime prefecture, and Iwagi Island.

I have been awarded the Hamamatsu University School of Medicine International Exchange Scholarship. This scholarship provides generous support for living expenses, allowing me to concentrate on my research and studies smoothly. I want to show my sincere gratitude to the university authorities, donors, and funders for this scholarship and for allowing me to conduct my PhD.

　Mst Sayela Afrozと申します。浜松医科大学光医工学共同専攻（博士後期課程）の最終学年の大学院生で、瀬藤光利教授のご指導のもと研究を行っています。私はバングラデシュ西部の出身で、その地域は甘いマンゴーと絹織物でとても有名です。バングラデシュのUniversity of Rajshahiの生化学･分子生物学科で学士号と修士号を取得しました。学部卒業後は、Bangladesh University of Health Sciencesという医療系大学で４年間勤務し、そのなかで自分は優れた研究者になれるのではないかと感じました。日本は研究の面で世界的に高く評価されており、女性にとっても好ましい研究環境とされています。

　私はこれまでにマスイメージング（MSI）や液体クロマトグラフィー質量分析法(LC-MS/MS)を用いた脂質オミクス、プロテオミクス、メタボロミクス、薬物およびその代謝物のイメージングに関する知識を身につけてきました。現在は、前立腺がんの治療標的の開発に取り組んでいます。また、神経変性疾患の新薬開発およびオミクス解析にも従事しています。博士課程では２年と８か月が経過し、第一著者として１本、共著者として５本の論文を発表しました。将来的には自分の専門性と知識を生かし、質量分析の研究分野に貢献していきたいと考えています。

　私は家族とともに浜松で暮らしています。日本の子どもに関する設備（保健、保育、防犯、交通安全）はとても信頼できます。私は浜松市内のほとんどの地域を訪れました。特に、浜名湖、はままつフラワーパーク、はままつフルーツパーク時之栖での果物狩りが印象的でした。浜松の天候や気候はとても快適です。浜松では「柿」、「三ケ日みかん」、「うなぎパイ」はとても有名です。日本には自然の美しい場所がたくさんあります。私はこれまでに、富士山、伊豆諸島、東京、京都、大阪、つくば、埼玉、名古屋、三重、富山、金沢、岐阜の白川郷、長野の白馬バレーや上高地、愛媛県の松山や今治、岩城島など、さまざまな場所を訪れました。

　私は浜松医科大学国際交流奨学金を受給しています。この奨学金は生活面での手厚い支援となり、そのおかげで私は研究と学業に専念することができています。この奨学金を支給していただいていること、そして博士課程の研究を行う機会をいただいていることに対し、大学関係者の皆さま、寄附者の皆さま、支援者の皆さまに心より感謝申し上げます
